Before the Move
Research Your New Area
Familiarize yourself with the different cities and neighborhoods in Utah.
Consider factors like cost of living, job market, climate, amenities, schools, and proximity to work.
Understand the tax laws, vehicle registration requirements, and any other legal considerations.
Find a Place to Live

Create a Budget
Estimate moving expenses including transportation, packing materials, hiring movers, and any other associated costs.
Notify Important Parties
Inform your current landlord (if applicable) about your move-out date.
Notify utility companies, subscription services, and banks about your change of address.
Transfer or cancel memberships (e.g., gym, clubs) that won't be relevant in the new state.

Gather Important Documents
Collect personal identification, medical records, school records, insurance documents, and any other essential paperwork.
Obtain copies of your lease or mortgage documents.
Declutter and Organize
Before packing, declutter your belongings to lighten the load. Donate, sell, or discard items you no longer need.
Invest in quality moving supplies and start packing early to avoid last-minute stress.
Start packing non-essential items well in advance.
Just Before and On The Big Day
Hire Movers or Rent a Moving Truck
Obtain quotes from moving companies or rental truck providers. We’ve put a few options together for you HERE.
Book your preferred option well in advance.
Pack Strategically
Label boxes clearly with the contents and the room they belong to. Try to place them in the moving truck together according to room.
Ensure items are located in the moving truck or with the moving company according to where they will go. Are some things going to a storage facility while others are going to your new home? Make sure it’s packed all together.
Pack a travel bag for moving day with essentials. Here’s a list to get you started.

Cash for moving crew tips and unexpected expenses.
Label an “Open First” Box (or boxes) and pack with some essentials including. These will help make the first evening a little less stressful.

On Moving Day
Supervise the loading of your belongings onto the moving truck.

Leave keys and garage door openers with new owner or landlord.
Make sure the place is cleaned and left as needed for new owner or landlord.

After Moving In
